They possess the same fatty acids to restore the lips' moisture barrier, namely olive oil, macadamia oil, meadowfoam oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, oat oil and sunflower oil. The minute difference lie in a couple of ingredients: Lip Pure Botanical Oils has antioxidants avocado oil and argan oil as well as soothing canola oil, whereas Lip Pure Fragrance Free combines antibacterial coconut oil, polyphenol-rich grapeseed oil and emollient squalane to give parched pouts instant relief.

Unlike what its name suggests, Lano Soft isn't purely lanolin based – it has got extra bits and pieces added in, like jojoba oil for its balancing properties and argan oil to nourish and regenerate.

Not only does this lip balm provides serious moisturisation, it also lends my puckers a whole lot of shine. It is still hard at work hours and hours after my initial application, and it even perseveres against a cuppa and my incessant lip smackings. It is so lovely that I have completely forsaken my other lip balms (sorry guys!)!

The unique ice cube cap is super cute and closes with a satisfying 'click' but becomes a source of rage (hurhurhur), when nicks appear on the rounded dome because of repeated smushings against the sides of the cap during the opening and closing process.

Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask is an ultimate thirst quencher as the formula deeply moisturises, keeping my pout soft and in perfect kissable condition (the brand promises 24H protection). Out of all the lip balms that I have tried before – and I have used plenty - this one stays on until the next morning in spite of my violent sleeping habits.

That is not to say that I can't use it during the day time, but I prefer something more portable when I am out and about. Besides that, the sticky, tacky, shiny and glossy finish can err on the slick side... a matte base is preferable if I want to wear lipsticks on top without them slipping or sliding off.

It has the mildest ginger fragrance, which makes sense since this product contains Ginger Extract alongside Shea Butter, Murumuru Seed Butter and Beeswax. A thin layer combined with the generously sized 25 g canister will keep me from looking for an alternative for quite sometime.

Paris, Perfect Memories has a peculiar berry scent which I later found out to be a mixture of raspberry and peach. Odd as it may be, it still smells so good that I reach for it over and over again.

ChuLip balms are available in four attractive colours, each with its unique blend of fragrances. There is a high probability that the next to go in my cart is NY, Brilliant My Way, thanks to the winning combination of Apple, Ginger and Tea Rose.

They are formulated with Olive Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil and Rosehip Oil - all great at forming a seal over the lips and keeping it nourished and moisturised. While Paris, Perfect Memories leaves my pout soft and chap free, it is not the kind of balm that one smoothes on at night and still feel the effects the following morning. For this reason alone, it is better off as a base for lipstick.
