Have you always sighed with envy at the famous scene from Snow White, when the Magic Mirror quoted, "Lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony. Skin white as snow?"
Well, Kosé is here to grant your wish so you can rock snow-like skin too! The Sekkisei series of skincare products is designed to brighten and clarify the complexion by utilising all-natural ingredients such as Coix Seed Extract, Melothria (White Lotus) Extract and Angelica Extract.
You can begin your journey with the Sekkisei trial kit, priced at RM 99 including GST. Value of the products is a little over RM 210 (no need to thank me for doing the math, haha!), so get this special edition kit before it disappears from the Kosé counters!
Sekkisei White Liquid Wash (RM 131.40 for 140 ml) produces a rich lather that is gentle on the skin. It cleanses thoroughly without stripping essential oils, leaving my skin fresh, supple and ready for the rest of my beauty routine. I find it a total joy to use and the baby lotion scent just adds to the overall experience.
I barely bat an eyelash at the alcohol content in my skincare products (or my drinks, heh!) but even I was a little taken aback at how strongly astringent the Sekkisei Lotion (RM 180.20 for 200 ml) smelt. Keep in mind that alcohol can be a trigger to redness, bumps, and even zits, so for those with sensitive skin, please proceed with caution!
It is great as an impromptu mask – soak the bihadagoyomi mask (if you don't have it, cotton pads will do) and place over puffy, blotchy face. The lotion is brilliant in this hot weather, and doubly more so when kept in the fridge.
Sekkisei Emulsion (RM 191.80 for 140 ml) is a powerful hydrator with a light, easy to absorb texture and it sits well beneath facial oil, sunscreen or whatever is it that I want to layer on top. I think it really complements the Sekkisei Lotion and it is not too pricey either. Weirdly enough, I don't mind spending this amount for an emulsion but I have to think twice when it comes to lotions. I don't know, is it just me or do you have this skewed perspective too?
The Sekkisei Clear Whitening Mask (RM 94.30 for 80 g) oozes out of the tube looking like tar but fortunately smells nothing like it. It has a consistency that allows it to glide easily, which according to the blurb, is due to the addition of nano-sized black powder particles. The effect is immediate: brighter and cleaner face (it managed to pull out some of my sebaceous filaments!). I certainly didn't expect it to hide such strength!
To use: spread it over clean face evenly (just like you do for jams) and leave it on for 20 minutes before peeling it off in an upward motion (sagging countermeasures). Remember to steer clear of the hairline and eyebrows to avoid unnecessary balding!
The star product in the kit is undoubtedly the Sekkisei Lotion but there is no fun in choosing it as my favourite right? Since I am being contrary, I would go for the Sekkisei Emulsion if I had to purchase a full-size something from the products above. There is something about this multitasking product that is infinitely satisfying: it was love at firstsight use!
I am ending my lengthy spiel with an acknowledgment (boy, am I sounding like an author or what?) to The Butterfly Project and Kosé because this post wouldn't happen if it weren't for their collaboration. And Kosé? A huge thumbs up to you, it is going to be hard (or should I say close to impossible?) for any brand to top unboxing a kit decked with party/helium balloons! Dōmo arigatō!!
