Tutorial: How To Order From Gmarket

1. Always use Internet Explorer. Gmarket can get wonky on other browsers.

2. Register for an account. That way, you can save items of worthy in your wishlist and not worry about the link going missing afterwards.

3. You'll get an e-mail with a confirmation link after you register. Be sure to enable pop ups as the confirmation button will appear in a pop up window. Complete the tasks in the boxes and viola! You can now log in and start buying.

4. Search for products using the search box or you can do it by clicking on All Categories. Look around for the best combination, some sellers have a higher price because they offer things like free gifts, a higher mileage or more Gstamps.

5. Some sellers sell a lot of different items in a single auction, resulting in a super lengthy drop down menu. Match the characters or the number of the item that you want with the ones in the drop down menu and you will get the item that you want.

A If this box is already checked, the seller won't ship internationally. Be sure to keep an eye out rather than to risk disappointment.
B Domestic shipping fee.
C Item selection.
D Colour selection.
E Seller and link to his/her store.

In my opinion, accessories are the hardest to buy. So for my tutorial, I'm showing the steps to purchase a silver coloured headband.

After clicking on the picture of the headband that I want, a window will pop up with the colours available for selection.

I'll click on Select Option and after choosing the headband that I want in the drop down menu, I'll key in the Korean equivalent for silver in my colours option box.

After I'm done choosing, I'll click on Buy Now or Add to Cart. I'm paying ₩ 8,900 including domestic shipping for this headband.

6. The items that you purchase are shipped to Gmarket's headquarters. Some sellers charge a fee of ₩ 0 (free!) to ₩ 2,500 for domestic shipping while others waive this fee if your order exceeds a certain amount. The seller will state the amount in his/her auction.

7. If you place several orders within a close period of time and your items are still in the headquarters, you can Request Combined Shipping in My Gmarket → Shopping List tab to save on international shipping.

8. You can use any of the options below to pay for your order. You have to pay within 7 days, otherwise, the items in your cart will be transfered to your wishlist.

9. You must be wondering what Gstamps are for... well wonder no longer! You can either use them to exchange or draw discount coupons.

I wouldn't recommend the second option. I know, it's a much better deal compared to the first, but trust me, it's not worth it. I seriously have no idea how people win these draws. Either that or I have the worse luck in the world! I won't reveal the number of times that I played (too embarrassing) but I can tell you that a very good number of my Gstamps went down the drain.

A reminder: Discount coupons are only valid for 15 days. So only exchange/draw them when you plan on making a purchase soon.

Additional information:
1. Sizes for clothes are catered for an Asian market. I believe that a top or dress that's labelled free size would best suit a UK 6 – 8.
2. Be patient when you order hair accessories. The seller that I ordered from took a week to send my tiny order out.
3. Gmarket will notify you through e-mail when your package is shipped internationally.

Hope you found my tutorial useful. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comment section below. Have fun shopping!

Thanks for your Gmarket tutorial, Blair! It's very informative. The headbands are beautiful. I've tried to order some VOV masks but, I was not able to check out and pay. On the order/payment screen, it ask for my for my mailing address, payment info, and sender's name? What should I put for sender's name?? Gmarket??

I was searching for Gmarket tutorials and landed on this entry.

Im going to order too but I was wondering if this happened to you? Upon checkout when I chose which credit card I had from the drop down box, nothing happened/the boxes below for cc number, etc. disappeared.

Blair said...

Hi Mia!

I'm not sure about using credit cards on Gmarket.. I usually use PayPal to make payments.

I clicked "confirm" and the next thing is see is "status: cancelled".. Tried twice and I tried ordering other stuff but still end up the same. Is it my paypal or should i contact gmarket?? Btw I didn't received any emails from gmarket regarding the issue. it's so frustrating cuz i want to buy it so badly:(

Blair said...

Hi Lynn,

I have never encountered this... I'm so sorry, I can't help much.

I have e-mailed Gmarket a couple of times too, and they never replied :(

I don't know what the colors are. In the color selection box it said type A, Type B, and so on.

Blair said...

Hello, can you please elaborate more? Or print screen the section where you are having trouble?

Danica Muncal said...

Hello, my friend's bday is coming up and she is in Korea. Is it possible if I order an item here and then deliver it to her address in Korea? Thanks

Blair said...

Hi Danica, yes you may do so. Just remember to click on 'new address' and type your friend's address in 'shipping address' and you'll be good to go!

lisa said...

is it possible to have free shipping if you buy from sellers who don't have a domestic fee? >< i don't really understand gmarket but i've heard that a lot of bloggers pay a loooot of money for shipping

Blair said...

Hi Lisa, yes some sellers offer free domestic shipping.

That usually refers to international shipping, where there is an incremental charge per 0.5 kg.

for ALL of you g-market lovers (including myself), they have the summer sale promo going on and are giving out three 20% coupons to EVERYONE!!!!

http://english.gmarket.co.kr/planview/plan.asp?sid=119876&pos_shop_cd=EN&pos_class_cd=90000005&pos_class_kind=T

I absolutely want to use any method possible to cut off the shipping costs and they have been pretty generous with coupons and discounts on already inexpensive goods, so it gets even better!
do you guys have any suggestions on which mini-shop is the best one to buy from?
i heard coco-something is real good but i can't seem to find it easily as the shop names are sometimes written in Korean. please give me some help with this T. T
